Custom-fit Mouth Guards

Protect Your Teeth During Athletic Activities & Sleep with Mouthguards

Protecting your smile is always essential to keep a healthy smile and ultimately a healthy body and emotions. Injuries to the mouth, teeth, and jaw are some of the most common injuries that happen either daytime during athletic or recreational activities or while sleeping by jaw clenching & teeth grinding (a condition called Bruxism). With an estimated prevalence rate among adults between 8% to 31.4% and children between 6% to half of all kids, you and your child may grind at night and not be aware of it.

Custom-fit dental mouth guards such as nightguards and sports guards are easy and non-invasive devices to protect your teeth from grinding or clenching while you sleep, from injuries while you play sports, or from orofacial pain due to TMJ. However, not all mouthguards are the same.

Teeth Grinding & Jaw Clenching

Teeth grinding, jaw clenching, and shifting is medically called bruxism. Bruxing is usually categorized into sleep bruxism and awake bruxism which happens to both adults & children.

Jaw clenching is characterized by when people clamp down your jaws with no other movement; teeth grinding happens when the lower jaw is tightened and moved sideways against the upper jaw. Therefore, people who clench their teeth are more likely to report aching jaw with hardly any wear marks on their teeth. on the other hand, grinding is likely to leave distinct patterns of tooth wear than can be detected during a dental examination.

Can Bruxism Leave a Permanent Damage?

Most people probably grind teeth and clench jaws from time to time. if it happens occasionally, it does not usually cause harm, but if it happens regularly, it can cause many oral health complications and be harmful by causing damage to the teeth, jaw, and facial muscle strain.

In some cases, chronic teeth grinding can result in a fracturing, loosening, or loss of teeth; it can also affect your jaw causing TMD/TMJ or changing the appearance of your face. Severe bruxism tears teeth down to stumps. When these events happen, dental treatments such as porcelain veneers, bridges, crowns, root canals, implants, complete dentures, and even full-mouth reconstruction may be needed.

Solutions for Bruxism

The best anti-grinding teeth protectors are the professionally made and premium dental guard, known as night guards. They help you to sleep comfortably, eliminate headaches, protect teeth, and reduce jaw discomfort. They work by putting a barrier between your teeth and lightening the tension in the muscles in the jaw. However, you should be screened for sleep apnea before being fitted for a night guard.
